Everyone from the Netherlands and Belgium probably know Suske & Wiske. :o When I was a kid I kept on reading those few comic books my dad had. But now I'm slowly collecting some old stories that were still done by Vandersteen.

This scene however is from an old one my dad had, and it's one of my favorites. I like the stories with historical influences best (apparantly it was a special series, see the [link] ).
Lambik gets to be all heoric in those, and since I drew this picture for Harry's birthday, and Lambik is his favorite character, I figured this'd be a good pick. :D

Took me nearly 2 weeks to finish this one, but I'm very pleased with the result! I wanted to draw them in my own style, but they should still look like themselves. Lambik was hardest, but like I said he had to be on it. ;)
Many hours of felt-tip pen linework (and pondering on what to do with the background - didn't want it to be too detailed, decided to leave the castle out of it) and all colors with Copic markers.

New S&W crap: [link] :P

Vandersteen comics of Suske & Wiske are still the best (I have all but the latest).

Very nice interpretation you've made :)
Wow! I recognized them immediately! Very beautifully rendered and colored. I love it. (Though I'm not a big fan of Vandersteen. *blush* )

I don't like the newer ones either. It seems the characters have totally lost what they were. The stories have too. :P
Thanks for commenting, Petra!

Oh good! I'm glad Harry also recognised the story I choose, convinced me it was good. :D
I have read some other Vandersteen stories, my dad also had some Rode Ridder comics and I've read Pats, but it never really stuck.

I'm starting to get the hang of markers, made some decisions in how to use them. I've decided to skip highlights for the most part, and it's working. Marker drawings are just meant to be 2D for me. When I want more dept I'll use pastel pencils or oilpaint. :)

God I didn't even recognize them. I was just wondering why you would draw in a style so unlike your own, and yet I saw some distinct features, and then I scrolled down and read " Everyone from the Netherlands and Belgium probably knows..." and I thought "Well I don't!" and then I read "Suske & Wiske," and I said (yes.) "Hwhat!".

I think you succeeded in combining your style with theirs ^_^ Good work <3
You are welcome sweetie. :)

Yeah, the characters have become all modern, especially S&W. It doesn't suit them. Seeing Wiske in a mini-skirt and top with belly button showing was too much for most readers.
I directly reconized Lambik.
It is really nice to see your own interpetation of Suske and Wiske.

My dad used to have an entire collection. He even had some very old ones. I read a lot of Suske and Wiske's, but I'm afraid they are now in some box in the attic. I used to have them on my room for a long time, but I got kinda bored of the stories :XD:
